Message from the Conference Chair
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Rajarata International Research Conference 2019 (RIRC 2019), the 5th annual Rajarata University Research Conference. In its brief history of eight years, the Rajarata University Research Conference has grown to be one of the premier annual research meetings in Sri Lanka. Since the inception of this event in the year of 2011, this is the second instance in which the Faculty of Applied Sciences is presiding over the organizational aspects of the conference. Just as the events that preceded this, the RIRC 2019 will be a multidisciplinary colloquium, that will draw expertise ranging from the humanities to the natural sciences. RIRC 2019 carries the theme “Expanding horizons through research, innovation and communication” and aims to continue its tradition of disseminating high-quality research with broad local and international participation. The RIRC 2019 aims to provide a platform for local scholars, industries, students and international participants from a wide range of disciplines ranging from the sciences to the humanities, to disseminate their research findings and also foster academic discourse which could lead to future collaborations and commercialization of findings.
RIRC 2019 will be held on the 6th and the 7th of November, at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. Situated in the historic and picturesque city of Mihintale, the venue of this meeting will provide both a stimulating and a conducive environment for an intellectual exchange such as the RIRC 2019. I hope that you will find the symposium enjoyable, valuable and also be able to appreciate the architectural, cultural and natural beauty of Mihintale, Sri Lanka.
We are honoured to have Professor Alun Lloyd (North Carolina University, USA), Professor Maithree Wickramasinghe (University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka), Dr. Herath Manthrithilake (International Water Management Institute, Sri Lanka), Dr. Dirk Kindermann (University of Vienna, Austria) and Dr Harshana Liyanage (University of Oxford) as our keynote speakers. As the Chair of the conference I hope that this event will create continued dialogue during and beyond the RIRC 2019, with the participation of local and international academics. I would like to invite the representatives of the universities, research institutes, and governmental and non-governmental institutions, including young scientists and academics, to submit your abstracts and to be part of RIRC 2019.
Welcome to Rajarata!
Dr. Eustace Fernando
